6-12, Agriculture, Trades, and Industry Teacher
JOB DESCRIPTION
To provide high-quality instruction in Agriculture, Trades, and Industry by preparing students with the academic knowledge, technical skills, occupational competencies, leadership abilities, and career readiness necessary for success in agriculture, skilled trades, postsecondary education, apprenticeships, military service, and the workforce. The teacher shall provide standards-based instruction through classroom, laboratory, greenhouse, shop, land laboratory, and work-based learning experiences while promoting workplace safety, environmental stewardship, technical proficiency, leadership, and professionalism in accordance with District curriculum, New Mexico Public Education Department requirements, and Career Technical Education (CTE) standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge of agriculture, agricultural mechanics, construction, manufacturing, welding, engineering technology, natural resources, forestry, environmental science, OSHA regulations, workplace safety, and CTE instructional practices. Ability to safely supervise laboratories and shops, integrate academic and technical learning, prepare students for industry certifications, manage facilities and inventories, analyze student data, communicate effectively, build community partnerships, utilize instructional technology, and maintain professionalism and ethical conduct.
PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, lift up to 50 pounds, safely operate agricultural and industrial equipment, supervise hands-on learning environments, and work in indoor and outdoor settings with varying weather, noise, dust, livestock, machinery, and temperature conditions while maintaining constant awareness of safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in Agriculture, Trades, and Industry.
- Teach agricultural science, agricultural mechanics, welding, construction, carpentry, woodworking, manufacturing, engineering technology, electrical systems, small engines, forestry, wildlife management, horticulture, environmental science, agricultural business, and related CTE content.
- Integrate academic content, technical skills, employability skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness into instruction.
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, technical assessments, postsecondary education, apprenticeships, and employment.
- Maintain safe, organized classrooms and like environments for student learning.
- Supervise the safe operation and maintenance of tools, machinery, equipment, vehicles, and instructional resources.
- Develop lesson plans, assessments, and differentiated instruction aligned to New Mexico CTE standards.
- Monitor student achievement and maintain accurate instructional, attendance, and grading records.
- Supervise Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and other work-based learning opportunities.
- Serve as advisor to the local FFA Chapter, SkillsUSA or other CTSOs as assigned.
- Coordinate instructional facilities, inventories, equipment maintenance, and laboratory operations.
- Establish partnerships with industry partners and postsecondary institutions.
- Participate in advisory committees, Perkins V initiatives, grant activities, curriculum development, and continuous program improvement.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve Agriculture, Trades, and Industry career pathways.
- Promote student participation in FFA, SkillsUSA, industry certifications, competitions, leadership conferences, and community service.
- Coordinate SAE programs and work-based learning experiences with local employers.
- Build partnerships with agricultural operations, forestry agencies, skilled trades, manufacturers, utilities, contractors, and colleges.
- Pursue grants, donations, and business partnerships to expand instructional resources and equipment.
- Promote student recruitment, retention, and successful transition to postsecondary education and the workforce.
