Job Summary & Purpose
The CTE Culinary Arts Teacher at Hondo Valley Public Schools provides foundational and advanced instruction in commercial food preparation, kitchen safety, and hospitality management. The instructor oversees classroom learning and practical food-laboratory environments, prepping students for regional workforce needs or post-secondary culinary training.

Performance Responsibilities & Duties
  • Instructional Delivery: Teach state-approved CTE competencies, including knife skills, recipe scaling, nutrition, commercial baking, and hot/cold food presentation.
  • Lab Management: Supervise an industrial or home-economics style kitchen lab, enforcing strict safety, sanitation, and OSHA/food-handling standards.
  • Credentialing: Prepare students for industry certification exams, primarily the ANSI-accredited ServSafe Food Handler or ServSafe Manager certifications.
  • CTSO Leadership: Advise the local chapter of a Career and Technical Student Organization (typically FCCLA—Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), guiding students through regional and state skills competitions.
  • Inventory Control: Manage the program budget, source raw ingredients, maintain commercial kitchen hardware, and coordinate community-based catering events.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Vocational/Technical Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, or an Associate’s degree matched with substantial industry experience.
  • Licensure: Hold or be eligible for a New Mexico Secondary (7-12) License with a Career Technical Education endorsement or a Vocational Technical License.
  • Experience: Generally requires 3 to 5 years of verifiable, professional wage-earning experience in the restaurant, baking, or hospitality industry
  • Testing & Clearances: Must pass a mandatory New Mexico Department of Education background check and child abuse registry clearance.
