MAGDALENA, NM – Join our team and help shape the future of our student-athletes! Magdalena Municipal Schools is seeking dedicated, energetic, and safety-conscious Athletic Coaches. This role is vital in fostering academic excellence, exceptional sportsmanship, and physical leadership in alignment with district and New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) values.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Athletic Coach provides leadership, technical instruction, and organizational structure for assigned 7-12 athletic programs. This position assumes responsibility for student-athlete safety, program compliance, and facility management while maintaining a positive, purposeful culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Program Administration & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all NMAA regulations and district bylaws. Ensure all participating student-athletes meet academic eligibility requirements prior to competition.
• Student-Athlete Safety & Supervision: Supervise student-athletes at all times during practices, home contests, and locker rooms. Travel with the team on district-provided transportation.
• Facility & Risk Management: Conduct daily physical safety inspections of assigned athletic facilities (gyms, fields, locker rooms) and coordinate directly with the Athletic Director to immediately report structural safety concerns.
• Community & Professional Relations: Maintain positive, professional communication with parents, school staff, and media. Manage team apparel and equipment responsibly.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Licensure: Hold a valid New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Athletic Coach (7-12) License or able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Mandatory NFHS Certifications: Current verification of completion for NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching and NFHS First Aid, Health, and Safety for Coaches.
• Emergency Preparedness: Valid and current CPR/AED Certification.
• Background Check: Successful completion and clearance of the mandatory NMPED fingerprinting and criminal background check.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

• Reports To: Athletic Director and/or School Principal.
• Scope: Junior High / Junior Varsity / Varsity assignments available based on seasonal sport needs.
• Salary: Seasonal assignment stipend determined by the Board-approved athletic increment schedule.
