MAGDALENA, NM- Magdalena Municipal Schools is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and properly certified Physical Education Teacher to join our team for the upcoming school year.

JOB GOAL
To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship between good body function and exercise. The ideal candidate will motivate pupils to cultivate physical fitness, hygiene, and healthy habits while supporting their social and emotional adjustment. You will discover and develop student talents in physical achievements across individual, dual, and team sports, tailoring instruction to each pupil's unique ability.

KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instructional Excellence: Teach foundational physical fitness, health education, rhythms, dance, and sports aligned with the Board of Education curriculum and NMPED standards.
• Adaptive PE (APE): Focus on Adaptive Physical Education by collaborating with special education staff to modify games and instruction according to students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans.
• Positive Behavior Management: Implement age-appropriate, proactive behavioral management plans in alignment with the MMSD Elementary Discipline Matrix, emphasizing positive reinforcement rather than punitive measures.
• Integrated Health Concepts: Deliver health components focusing on crucial topics like hydration, hygiene (proper hand-washing protocols), weather safety, and the benefits of an active lifestyle.
• Safety & Facility Oversight: Conduct safety checks on equipment and field areas. Oversee daily gym floor care and coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure the gym, weight rooms, and locker rooms remain immaculate.
• Collaboration & Communication: Partner with the principal and PE department to build a balanced, continuous program. Communicate student progress and behavior proactively to parents at least bi-weekly or monthly.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid New Mexico K-12 Physical Education License OR an Elementary License with a Physical Education Endorsement.
• Properly certified in all areas of assignment.
• Must be technology literate.
• Demonstrated cooperativeness, professional reliability, and a willingness to carry out all performance responsibilities with a student-centered approach.
