JOB DESCRIPTION: 6-8 ELA Teacher
Qualifications: Current State of New Mexico 5-9 Licensure, endorsement in Language Arts.
Essential Functions: All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization.
Essential Job Functions
Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and Benchmarks, Common Core State Standards plus the CMS Board of Education goals and objectives.
Demonstrates general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Demonstrates knowledge of routine tasks, duties and procedures and the ability to follow instructions. Exercises sound judgment to instruct students and manage behavior. Willing to improve competency through professional growth and remain current with developments in the profession. Ability to work with various ethnic groups. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Effective oral and written communicator. Performs duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies. Works collaboratively to achieve overall goals of the school and District.

- Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Delivers curriculum using high quality state approved textbooks.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals to the Student Assistance Team (SAT)
- Participates in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and documentation when appropriate.
- Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Is available for a reasonable amount of time as consistent with applicable law to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day for a reasonable amount of time as consistent with applicable law by means of emails, notes, phone calls, conferences, and/or newsletters.
- Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student's work.
- Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Completes all District required paperwork and documents.
- Follows health and safety practices and regulations.
- Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment such as creating common assessments.
- Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
