Director of Grammar School
Supervisor: The Director of Grammar School will report to the Executive Director.
Our desire is to build a positive, collaborative, team environment within the faculty of EVCA, one in which faculty interact in positive ways to help each other, give and accept constructive feedback in a positive manner, are sensitive to each other’s concerns and perspectives, and are coordinated in their goals and actions in pursuing the mission of the school. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Grammar School Director has the authority and responsibility for leadership of the grammar school faculty and staff. The Grammar School Director shall review the administrative performance of staff in the Grammar school and provide input to the ED for reviewing the Grammar school faculty’s teaching.
The Director of Grammar School is expected to:
· Have oversight of Grammar school staff and assigned staff daily tasks, reviews, and professional development
o Ensure that each faculty and staff member in the grammar school knows their job function, where they fit in the organizational chart, and what their job expectations are.
o Visit the classroom of each grammar school teacher at least twice per semester, filling out a preliminary assessment of the teacher as directed by the Executive Director.
o Identify suggestions for professional development/improvement of teachers in categories where their performance is less than satisfactory.
o Coach teachers in areas where their performance is less than satisfactory.
o Act as LEA for grammar school 504 meetings.
o Act as LEA for grammar school MLSS and SAT meetings.
o Provide a written report to the ED of the twice-per-semester classroom visits, the preliminary assessments of the teachers, and any issues that are less than satisfactory.
o Grade Leads
§ Work with the ED to assign Grade Leads for each lower school grade.
§ Communicate that assigned role and expectations to the Grade Lead and non-Grade Lead.
§ Periodically follow-up with both the Grade Lead and the non-Grade Lead regarding the arrangement.
· Teacher mentors
§ Work with the ED to assign a mentor to each lower school teacher that either 1) is in their first year of teaching at EVCA, or 2) has less than two years of teaching experience.
§ Communicate that assigned role and expectations to the mentor and mentee.
§ Periodically follow-up with both the mentor and mentee regarding the arrangement and whether it is working.
· Work with Mentor teachers to monitor, observe, and provide feedback to Mentees.
· Work with Mentor teachers to revise mentoring plans as necessary to adequately address any observed issues.
Oversight of interpersonal, communication, student, and parent issues
· As prescribed in the Grievance Policy, work with grammar school staff as needed in an attempt to address issues with students, parents, or within the grammar school staff.
· Inform or involve others at the school, as appropriate, to include, but not limited to: the MLSS team, SAT team, 504 team, Upper School Director, Security, or the Executive Director.
· For each reported alleged violation of EVCA policy or state or federal statutes, perform a brief investigation, document the findings, and report the allegations and findings to the Executive Director in all cases.
· Follow the discipline matrix and make sure each discipline referral is noted with consequences and provided to the Student Life Coordinator to be logged in PowerSchool. Communicate with parents and teachers regarding discipline referrals and consequences for students. Include the ED in discipline discussions when appropriate.
· Provide updated Grammar School discipline report to ED by the Friday prior to the monthly GC meeting.
