Typical Responsibilities:

• Vehicle Maintenance: Perform regular inspections, diagnostics, and maintenance on school buses and other district vehicles to ensure they are safe and operational.
• Repairs: Address mechanical issues, including engine, transmission, brake, and electrical system repairs for both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities to comply with district policies and state regulations.
• Compliance: Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and adhere to federal and state transportation regulations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with transportation and administrative staff to schedule maintenance and address any vehicle-related concerns.

Typical Requirements:

• Education: A high school diploma or GED is typically required. Additional certifications in diesel mechanics or related fields are preferred.
• Experience: Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, especially in a bus or heavy-duty vehicle context.
• Licensing: Possession of a valid driver's license; a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required or preferred.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency with diagnostic tools, and the ability to work independently.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
