Typical Responsibilities:

• Student Safety: Assist the bus driver in ensuring the safe loading and unloading of students, including those with special needs.
  Behavior Management: Help maintain a disciplined and orderly environment on the bus, addressing behavioral issues promptly.
• Emergency Preparedness: Participate in conducting safety drills and be prepared to act in emergency situations to protect students.
• Communication: Collaborate effectively with the bus driver, school staff, students, and parents to address concerns and provide updates.
• Special Assistance: Provide additional support to students with disabilities, including assistance with mobility aids and ensuring proper safety equipment usage.
   
• Typical Requirements:
• Age Requirement: Individuals under the age of 18 are generally not hired as school bus assistants.
  Education: A high school diploma or GED is typically preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is advantageous.
• Training: Completion of training programs related to student safety and emergency procedures is often required.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to assist students physically, including helping with mobility aids and ensuring safety during transit.
• Background Check: Successful completion of criminal background checks and adherence to drug and alcohol testing policies are standard requirements.
