SUMMARY OF POSITION
To help each pupil develop competencies in basic mathematical skills and understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Comply with district policies, state and federal laws and regulations affecting schools.  
  • Teach courses in mathematics to Middle and High School pupils utilizing the standards and benchmarks in the approved curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans and unit plans to address any strategies/interventions to meet the standards/ benchmarks in the curriculum. 
  • Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models; chalk board; overhead projector; computers and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluate each pupil’s progress in mathematics knowledge and skills. 
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintain required inventory records.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Communicate with parents, bi-weekly, monthly or sooner if the need arises, on student’s progress and behavior.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Supervise pupils in and out of classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implement EPSS.
  • Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematics teams, to include in and out of school activities and participates in faculty committees.
  • Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Administer the IPT Assessment. 
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Must be technology literate.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.
NON ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Cares for and effectively assists students with special concerns.
  • Establishes guidelines with effective instructional/teaching objectives.
  • Encourages effective learning with proper teaching techniques.
  • Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities, to include in and out of school activities.
  • Control assigned district-owned office equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Teaching Licensure by New Mexico Public Education Department or working in a planned program with a University/College leading towards a Teaching license with NMPED.
  • Mathematics Endorsement
  • Bilingual/TESOL Endorsement; if assigned to a bilingual setting.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education is considered the minimum qualifying credential.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries.
  • Knowledge of subject matter.
  • The ability to organize data, compile reports and prioritize work.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, parents, and the community.
  • The ability to work productively in an active environment.
  • Required to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
