Job Description:
Position Goal: The BCS Work-Based Learning Instructor at the high school level, will play a pivotal role in facilitating students' transition from academic learning to real-world application in professional settings. The primary responsibility will be to work with BCS high school seniors to coordinate and oversee work-based learning experiences that align with students' career goals and academic pursuits. The work-based learning instructor will establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide students with valuable opportunities to gain hands-on experience, develop essential workplace skills, and explore potential career paths.
Required Qualifications: Required qualifications to effectively perform the job at the time of hire.  An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. 
  • Bachelor's degree in education, career and technical education, workforce development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in education, career counseling, workforce development, or a related field.
  • Familiarity of local industries, labor market trends, and employer needs.
  • Knowledge of career exploration and development principles, including career assessment tools and resources.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, employers, and community partners.
  • Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in work-based learning opportunities.
Essential Duties and Performance Responsibilities: Basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Assist the Superintendent and High School Building Principals in:
  1. Curriculum Development: Design and develop curriculum materials that integrate classroom learning with real-world work experiences. Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate industry-specific skills and competencies.
  2. Student Guidance: Provide personalized guidance and support to students in selecting work-based learning opportunities that align with their interests, skills, and career goals. Assist students in preparing resumes, cover letters, and job applications.
  3. Partnership Building: Cultivate and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations to establish a diverse range of work-based learning opportunities. Collaborate with employers to ensure that work experiences meet educational objectives and industry standards. The work base learning instructor will interact with UNM-VC, Workforce Solutions, and the City of Belen office of Economic Development.
  4. Placement and Supervision: Coordinate the placement of students in work-based learning experiences, including internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and cooperative education programs. Supervise students during their work experiences, providing mentorship and support as they navigate workplace dynamics and tasks.
  5. Assessment and Evaluation: Assess student progress and performance in work-based learning activities using a variety of methods, such as observation, feedback from employers, and portfolio assessment. Monitor student attendance, punctuality, and professionalism in the workplace.
  6. Professional Development: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes in the labor market to ensure that work-based learning opportunities remain relevant and up-to-date. Attend professional development workshops and conferences related to work-based learning and career readiness.
  7. Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and other stakeholders to integrate work-based learning experiences into the broader educational program. Participate in meetings and committees to coordinate efforts and share best practices.

  10. Complies with District/Department rules, procedures, administrative directives, and state statutes concerning the confidentiality of personnel, student, and district information.
  11. Articulates and implements district/department mission and goals.
  12. Completes all required pre-employment and annual trainings.
  13. Clear or approved background check in accordance with House Bill 128.
  14. Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
