Job Title:  ART TEACHER 
General Job Description:
Working under the supervision of the Principal, this position will assist and coordinate the integration of arts/fine arts in the elementary schools and provide classroom instruction on an as-needed basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Work with principal regarding budget and schedules.
  2. Plan and implement an arts program in alignment with NM PED expectations.
  3. Design creative activities to allow students to experience different artistic styles and mediums.
  4. Incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects and cooperative work to engage students, keep classes focused and infuse a lasting desire to learn.
  5. Order and prepare materials, create art lessons, and teach visual art.
  6. Attend meetings, trainings, or PLCs as assigned by the Principal.
  7. Introduce individual students to particular the arts as they support the general education curriculum.
  8. Follow school and district policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline.
  9. Share responsibility for grade level and school-wide activities.
  10. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  11. Keep the instruments assigned to their buildings in good repair.
  12. Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multimedia equipment including current technology.
  13. Instrumental directors must have a working knowledge of the instruments they will be teaching, and choral directors must have a working knowledge of the piano.
  14. Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
  15. Be flexible and able to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate and detailed records.
  16. Report to work on time and work no less than 7.25 hours per day.
  17. Work independently with very little supervision.
  18. May be required to perform other related duties/functions as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Students in class(es)
  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  2. Current New Mexico Teaching license with Endorsements as needed.
  3. Ability to pass a background check.
