Job Description:
This is an instructional position with responsibility for guiding and directing the learning experiences of pupils in a group or class.
REPORTS TO: Site Principal
  • Teaches skills, concepts and social competencies.
  • Plans a program for individualized and group instruction based on identified long-range goals and specific objectives.
  • Plans lessons so that students become involved in learning and decision-making related to curriculum choices.
  • Uses a variety of techniques and materials to instruct and motivate students.
  • Maintains records appropriate to a diagnostic/prescriptive approach.
  • Maintains a classroom that recognizes respect for both teacher and student; motivates students in an atmosphere of respect and freedom. Uses appropriate classroom management techniques.
  • Confers with the pupil, his/her parents, the principal and/or supportive personnel regarding the pupil’s academic and social development.
  • Maintains required records. Keeps attendance, grade records.
  • Applies knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Evaluates student achievements.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests and records results; evaluates student achievements.
  • Attends classes, seminars, etc., to provide for professional growth and keeps abreast of the latest instructional methods and techniques
  • May be required to supervise students during playground activities and loading and unloading buses
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Collaboratively plans and teaches with other members of the staff and community to meet the needs of all learners.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Holds, or is eligible for, a valid New Mexico Teaching Certificate for the level and subject area in which he/she is to work.
Ability to independently plan and organize work; to present information clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; to establish effective and tactful working relationships with co-workers  and the general public; to handle confidential information in trustworthy manner; to make good judgment decisions regarding student and district matters.
