Job Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Develop and implement individual education plan (IEP) including ancillary services for each child in assigned special education program
  • Inform and involve student’s parent(s) in education programs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training programs
  • Service on Individualized Education plan Committee(s) as assigned or invited.
  • Follow-up on progress of students integrated into other programs
  • Submit reports to principal or Special Education Coordinator as requested.
  • Develop and maintain skills needed to use various non-traditional methods and materials to teach
  • Service on District committees as requested
  • Return student special files to Special Education Department the day student placement is changed or terminated.
  • Prepare report cards and participate in grading periods of students
  • Report grades of “D”, “F”, or “U” three (3) weeks prior
  • Work as part of a trans disciplinary team in developing individual education plans for each student.
  • Complete necessary documentation on each student in the education program
  • Provide culturally competent and sensitive services to all students.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written forms
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement goals and objectives in a comprehensive trans disciplinary plan of care
  • Collaborate with specific IEP Team members to implement student’s educational and therapeutic plan.

  • Transport students as a certified Defensive Driver in school vehicles, as needed or appropriate.
  • Shall work 181 days at 6.5 hours daily.
  • Shall be entitles to all fringe benefits as accrued by all nine month employees.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Supervises students and may supervise educational/medical assistants, as assigned
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 
 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, as appropriate to subjects being taught.
 
REASONING ABILITY: 
 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
 
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.  Prior experience teaching students with disabilities preferred.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 
 
Must comply with District, State mandated regulations and guidelines for teaching credentials/certificates, as pre grade and subjects teaching.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office or classroom work environment.
