General Job Description:
Responsible for working with Principals to identify teachers that are in need of support and training to improve instructional skills in literacy. Coach will provide direct classroom support to improve literacy instruction.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with site principals to identify teachers in need of support for improving literacy instruction.
  • Provide direct classroom support, including but not limited to the following:
  • Assist teachers to develop quality lesson plans utilizing district pacing guides, unpacked standards, and best practices.
  • Observe teachers and provide feedback and coaching in the improvement of literacy instruction.
  • Model instruction to build capacity for teachers in literacy instruction.
  • Assist Principal to disaggregate student literacy data and make recommendations for next steps.
  • Coordinates teaching program with site-based goals and district-wide objectives;
  • Roll out and train teachers to competency on district adopted and approved curricula.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of district pacing guides.
  • Assist with alignment of learning activities with Common Core State Standards or other PED-required standards.
  • Develop activities and training to ensure district wide teacher competency in literacy instruction.
  • Provide support and training to develop strong teachers in reading instruction.
  • Provide support and training to develop strong teachers in writing instruction.
  • Utilizes and reviews data to improve student literacy.
  • Assists Principals to plan, develop, and monitor implementation of literacy initiatives.
  • Reports on progress and activities to Deputy Superintendent.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service training activities
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.
 
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere to professional standards at all times.
  • Demonstrate attention to punctuality, attendance, records and reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
  • Comply with policies, procedures and programs.
  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  • Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
 
Qualifications:
  1. A bachelor's degree, or higher.
  2. A valid New Mexico teaching license with endorsements as needed (TESOL and Reading).
  3. Level Three Teacher Licensure and/or 3 years of successful teaching experience at assigned level.
  4. Teachers with consistent summative evaluation ratings of Effective or higher preferred.
  5. Must be able to pass employment verification.
 
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
 
Safety and Health:
  • Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Workshop
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training
 
Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.
 
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.                                                                        
 Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year to be established by the Board. 9 month position. * All BPS Positions are Dependent on Funding
