Job Description:
Individual will work with La Escuelita Pre-K program to teach the Pre-K students at Cochiti Elementary.
The Early Childhood Teacher, under the supervision of the Early Childhood Director, is
responsible for developing and implementing a developmentally based, educational program for
an assigned class of school children. The curriculum must meet the emotional, physical,
cognitive, and social needs of both the individual child and the group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement FOCUS criteria within PreK classroom.
  • Case Mange students who are on IEP’s; read each individual child’s files in his/her class and is knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.
  • Interacts with the children and encourages their involvement in activities.
  • Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
  • The environment should allow the child to grow and to explore in alignment to ECERS criteria.
  • Plans, prepares, and implements daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum utilized within the PreK classroom.
  • Integrate and develop instructional lessons to promote early literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Responsible for the health, welfare, and safety of the children.
  • Provides overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time.
  • Oversees all mealtime/snack time activities, models family-style dinning with students.
  • Maintains daily attendance records.
  • Maintains ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
  • Keeps a “portfolio” of each child’s progress, including photographs, samples of their artwork,
  • writing, as required from NM Pre-K showing evidence of Essential Indicators and documentation.
  • Maintains good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets,
  • notes, or verbally.
  • Supervises, trains and utilizes assistant teacher’s (and volunteer’s) skills and abilities.
  • Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Maintains adherence to all company policies and procedures, including agency safety requirements.
  • Must work the days and hours to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, be punctual and timely in meeting all performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.
 Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attends all Early Childhood staff meetings (Exact meeting dates and times TBA).
  • Attends all supervisory meetings, team planning meetings and curriculum meetings scheduled by the Early Childhood Director.
  • Attends the Early Childhood Orientation and set-up week prior to the start of school and the clean-up week following the last day of school.
  • Participates in Parent Orientation Night, home visits and Parent/Child Open House prior to school.
  • Maintains all required reports pertaining to the class and/or individual children. This includes progress reports twice annually in November & May, using NM Pre-K database.
  • Prepares and conducts three Parent/Teacher Conference. Also, responsible for holding or initiating parent conference/meetings other than the one mentioned above, as necessary.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, & any in-service training sponsored by the Early Childhood Center, the NM Pre-K, &/or other educational organizations, as approved and instructed by the Early Childhood Director.
  • Attends the NM Pre-K training annually or Early Childhood Conference.
  • Attends and assists with the Preschool Graduation.
  • Writes a weekly newsletter in details for parents, submitted to the Early Childhood Director for prior approval.
  • Submits a written lesson plan weekly to the Early Childhood Director for prior approval.
  • Maintains cleanliness in staff lounge and classroom.
  • Meets all deadlines and requirements mandated by NM Pre-K, including appropriately filling out required documentation and reports required by NM Pre-K.
  • Attends and participates in all Literacy/Numeracy activities monthly as required by NM Pre-K
 Qualifications:
  1. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood development and meet all NM Pre-K and NAEYC requirements for Lead Teacher.
  2. A valid New Mexico teaching license with endorsements as needed.
  3. Highly Qualified Status
  4. Must be able to pass employment verification.
