Job Description:
  1. Bachelor of Arts/Science or Master’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university.  An Associates of Arts degree in Education or in any other discipline from an accredited college/university.
  2. Must possess a valid New Mexico Public Education Language/Culture Teacher license or eligible for license.
  3. Must be fluent in Navajo and knowledgeable of Navajo language and culture.
  4. Skill and ability to implement a Navajo language and culture program.

PAY RANGE               :           A.A. Degree – Direct Instructional Support Salary Schedule
                                                B.A./B.S./M.A. Degrees - Certified Salary Schedule
WORKING HOURS    :           7:30 AM to 4:30 PM - 4 Day Work Week - Mon.-Thurs. (Lunch, 1/2 hour daily)
POSITION GOAL       :           To assist each pupil to develop competence in Navajo language/culture skills and an understanding of Navajo language/culture (including Navajo and other Native American music) specifically the Ramah Navajo language dialect and local culture.  To provide structured classroom management, planned instruction and thorough assessments which reflect each student’s learning progress.  To work with parents, staff members and students to increase the subject area knowledge and skills of the student.

  1. Will support and comply with the Pine Hill School philosophy, mission, and vision.
  2. Will have four (4) hours of Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
  3. Will have four (4) hours of training on SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
  4. Become familiar and be in compliance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act). 
  5. Teaches courses as assigned to elementary school students in line with school policies/procedures and Navajo language and culture curriculum.
  6. Maintains structured class management such that students are exposed only to efficient, businesslike, active learning environments without disruption.  Establish class rules and standards of classroom behavior with students and consistently enforces those expectations.  
  7. Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional assessments, materials, activities and so forth.
  8. Provides opportunities, when appropriate, for small group interaction, individual or small group instruction.
  9. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
  10. Communicates with parents/staff to interpret assessments and to discuss individual student’s progress.
  11. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  12. Supervises students in/out of classroom as assigned.
  13. Participates in curriculum or other developmental programs as assigned.
  14. Shares in sponsorship of students activities, and participates in all staff/training meetings as assigned.
  15. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  16. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 
  17. Makes provisions for being available to students, parents, and teachers for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  18. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  19. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
